At KeyRate, our goal is simple: to help you choose a credit card with clear, honest, and current information. This page explains exactly how we research, write, and maintain our content — and how we make money — so you can judge our work with full transparency.
Our Mission
Credit cards are marketed heavily and explained poorly. We exist to fix the second half of that problem. Every guide, review, and comparison on KeyRate is written to answer one question for a real person: is this card a good fit for me, and why?
Who Writes Our Content
KeyRate’s content is produced by our editorial team — writers and researchers who specialise in consumer credit and rewards. Every article is reviewed for accuracy before it is published, and each one carries a visible publish or “last updated” date so you always know how current it is.
How We Research a Card
We do not rely on marketing summaries. For every card we cover, we:
- Verify the key terms — annual fee, rewards rates, APR ranges, and fees — against the issuer’s own official pages at the time of writing.
- Read the fine print that affects real value: category caps, enrollment requirements, expiry rules, and foreign transaction fees.
- Compare each card against its closest rivals, so our verdict reflects the actual alternatives you have.
What We Evaluate
Each card is judged against the same consistent criteria:
- Cost — annual fee, APR, and any hidden or recurring charges.
- Real rewards value — not the headline rate, but what you’ll realistically earn and redeem.
- Credits and perks — and how easy they actually are to use.
- Who it’s for — the spending profile and credit level the card suits best.
- Trade-offs — the honest downsides, because every card has them.
Accuracy and Updates
Card terms change often. When an issuer changes a fee, a rewards rate, or a welcome offer, we update the affected article and refresh its date. If you ever spot something out of date or incorrect, please tell us through our Contact page — we verify and correct errors promptly.
Editorial Independence
Our recommendations are based on the merits of each product. No advertiser, affiliate partner, or card issuer can pay for a favourable review, a higher ranking, or the removal of a criticism. Commercial relationships never influence our editorial opinions.
How We Make Money
KeyRate is free to read. We fund our work in two ways: through affiliate links (we may earn a commission if you are approved for a product after clicking one, at no extra cost to you) and through on-site advertising. Neither affects which cards we recommend or what we say about them. Full details are in our Legal Notice and Privacy Policy.
Not Financial Advice
Everything on KeyRate is for general educational purposes only and is not financial, investment, or legal advice. We are not licensed financial advisors. Approval decisions are made solely by the issuing bank, and you should always review a card’s official terms and consider your own circumstances before applying.
